As part of its commitment to the care and respect for the environment, the organisation of the cycling tour, in collaboration with the Town Hall and the Sports Department of Oropesa del Mar, carried out this awareness-raising activity on Thursday 16th May.
Oropesa del Mar. 16th May 2024. The team of people who make up the organisation of the Desafío 10 Picos Sierra de Espadán Challenge carried out cleaning tasks this Thursday 16th May in the ‘Cala del Retor’ de Oropesa del Mar, in the province of Castellón. The aim of this activity is to raise awareness of respect and care for the environment and nature. In collaboration with the Town Council and the Sports Department of Oropesa del Mar, the workers of ‘La 10 Picos’ have removed plastics, glass and all kinds of waste that were on the beach and its surroundings, facing a summer season that is just around the corner.
The Desafío 10 Picos Sierra de Espadán is a cycling tour that has already celebrated its fourth edition in 2024. Since its beginnings, this event has aimed to raise awareness about respect and care for the environment, something fundamental in the practice of cycling and cycle touring. For example, in 2023, the ride organised by cyclist Ángel Casero and his team paid tribute to the firefighters in charge of fighting fires in the province of Castellón, after one of the worst forest fire seasons in recent years.
“We are aware of how important it is for cycling and cycle tourism to care for and conserve the natural environment. That’s why we are very demanding with the cleaning and removal of cycling material once the ride is over. We put a lot of emphasis on making our participants see the importance of taking care of the environment and we do actions like the one we did this Thursday in Oropesa to try to raise awareness among as many cycling enthusiasts as possible,” said Ángel Casero.
The IV Desafío 10 Picos Sierra de Espadán Challenge was held on Saturday 20 April, starting and finishing in the town of Onda, in the province of Castellón. More than 800 cyclists enjoyed an unforgettable day cycling through one of the most spectacular natural landscapes and most suitable for the practice of this discipline that combines sport and tourism.
